Plein Soleil (René Clément, France, 1960)

Delon is a terrifically good in the role: his almost unearthly perfection is creepy itself, as if he is imitating a human being.
— Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

Alain Delon’s first staring role was as novelist Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley – an immoral fantasist and sociopath who will stop at nothing to usurp another man’s life. Remade by Anthony Minghella in 1999 as The Talented Mr Rippley, Plein Soleil is the original – and arguably – the best adaptation of Highsmith’s 1955 novel.

On DVD and BD 16th September 2013 Based on the novel by crime scribe Patricia Highsmith who also wrote 'Strangers On A Train', Rene Clement's striking study from 1960 of a glamarous and complex psychopath features a career-defining turn from a young, beautiful and ultra-cool Alain Delon.
