The Talented Mr Ripley (Anthony Minghella, USA, 1999)

Not only is it an elegantly polished affair, with top notch performances all round, and magnificent camerawork and editing, it’s also acutely aware of how class, money and sex shape desire and resentment.
— Geoff Andrew, Time Out

To complement our screening of Plein Soleil, the first screen adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel, we thought it’d be worth revisited this acclaimed, more recent version.

Matt Damon plays brilliantly against type as psychopathic identity thief Tom Ripley. The excellent supporting cast includes Jude Law, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett.

Matt Damon "gives one of the year's most extraordinary performances" (Premiere) as Tom Ripley, a calculating young man who believes it's better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody.Opportunity knocks in the form of a wealthy American shipbuilder who hires Tom to travel to Italy to bring back his playboy son, Dickie (Law).
