The mood is right, the spirit's up, we're here tonight, and that's enough… Yep, it’s that time of year again, when our thoughts turn to robin redbreasts, flaming puds, pedagogic spirits n all that cal. Our final screening for 2025 will be screening a couple of festive comedic shorts.
First up is Tim Key and Tom Basden’s Anthony (Jonathan van Tulleken, UK, 2014 ), in which a huge explosion tears through Lapland on Christmas Eve, forcing Santa and his elf, Anthony, to crash-land in the middle of nowhere on their busiest night… Next we’ll be screening that heart-warming family favourite The Junky’s Christmas (Nick Donkin / Melodie McDaniel, USA, 1994): a part claymation/part live action adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ 1952 short story, in which a junky roams the upper west side of Manhattan in search for a fix on a cold Christmas day.
Running time for both films is below 60 minutes, which gives us plenty of time afterwards to head downstairs for a cup o’ festive cheer and a plate o’ festive snacks.
If you’d like to join us for some post-film festive grub and the chance to mingle with your fellow film clubbers, there’ll be an additional charge of £12 (payable in advance when you reserve a seat). And please do let us know about any allergies/dietry requirements/etc.
