Is it any coincidence that the victim in Twin Peaks is called Laura or that the name ‘Waldo Lydecker’ (Clifton Webb’s character in Laura) appears twice in the show – as both the name of a myna bird (Waldo) and the local veterinarian (Bob Lydecker)? Probably not. This is one of the great film noirs, with Dana Andrews as the detective who falls in love with the woman whose murder he is investigating.
'I shall never forget the weekend Laura died...' So begins Otto Preminger's masterpiece about erotic obsession, jealousy, deceit and deadly betrayal, now newly - and beautifully - restored. For venues and more information click here: http://www.bfi.org.uk/whatson/node/24565
