“High, wide and handsome, and it is well stocked with international stars.”
Kirk Douglas stars as the eponymous Ulysses, returning home to his wife, Penelope (Silvana Mangano), after ten long years of war. But before he’s able to address the delicate matter of all the suitors who have been pestering Penelope in his absence, Ulysses must first overcome a number of obstacles - such as the wily sorceress Circe (also played by Silvana Mangano), a bevy of seductive sirens and one bloody great cyclops…. Shot in glorious Technicolor and with a suitably heroic performance from Kirk Douglas, this 1955 adaptation of Homer’s epic poem is a FUN! companion to Christopher Nolan’s somewhat darker vision. (And the trailer’s an absolute blast!)
