Alien (Ridley Scott, UK/USA, 1979)

  • Highgate Library Chester Road London, England, N19 5DH United Kingdom (map)
“Scott’s film still shreds nerves... Not the fright induced by monsters with slithering tentacles and rapacious spikes, but the chilled-to-the-bone fear that no one can hear you scream, no matter where you are...”
— Manohla Dargis, Los Angeles Times

Screened in tribute to Tom Skerritt (1933 - 2026)

Halfway through their journey home, the crew of the commercial starship, Nostromo, are awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules in order to investigate a distress call from a derelict vessel adrift in space. But the vessel is deserted - save for a chamber containing hundreds of large eggs of unknown origin... With an absolutely brilliant cast (Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Yaphet Kotto, Ian Holm and Veronica Cartwright) Alien is a claustrophobic chamber-piece sci-fi-horror classic.
