Only Lovers Left Alive (Jim Jarmusch, USA, 2013)

  • The Lord Palmerston 33 Dartmouth Park Hill London, England, NW5 1HU United Kingdom (map)
Only Lovers Left Alive excels mainly as a vampire slice of life, functioning beautifully as both an inventory of Jarmusch’s literary, philosophical, and musical interests, and a larger comment on the follies of human existence.
— Scott Tobias, Village Voice

Halloween screening

Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, Tom Hiddleston stars as Adam, a depressed musician-cum-vampire, who reunites with his resilient and enigmatic vampiric lover, Eve (Tilda Swinton ), only to have their debauched idyll disrupted by the arrival of Eve’s wild and uncontrollable younger sister, Ava. (Mia Wasikowska). Jim Jarmusch's cool, deadpan style is the perfect match for this unique existential exploration of imortality: a vampire movie that replaces Halloween horrors for a deeper, darker despair at 21st century ennui… In addition to the three leads there's also great support from John Hurt, Jeffrey Wright and Anton Yelchin. And as usual with Jarmusch there's a terrific soundtrack too.
