Gosford Park (Robert Altman, Italy/UK/USA, 2001)

  • The Lord Palmerston 33 Dartmouth Park Hill London, England, NW5 1HU United Kingdom (map)
Taking advantage of a splendid cast, a sharply focused script and the fresh English setting, “Gosford Park” emerges as one of the most satisfying of Robert Altman’s numerous ensemble pictures.

Screened in tribute to Michael Gambon (1940 - 2023)

The late great Michael Gambon stars as Sir William McCordle, surly patriarch who gathers his family and numerous well-heeled peers, to his country house for a weekend of huntin’ n shootin’. But when Sir William is found murdered, it doesn’t take long for family secrets, lies and deceptions to come tumbling out… With a genuinely all star cast (including the likes of Alan Bates, Maggie Smith, Derek Jacobi, Eileen Atkins, Richard E. Grant, Kristin Scott Thomas, Charles Dance, Tom Hollander, Jeremy Northam, Stephen Fry, Bob Balaban, Clive Owen, and Kelly Macdonaland) and a screenplay by Julian Fellows, Altman’s venture into Agatha Christie territory is a slyly satirical joy from beginning to end - and arguably his last truly great movie.
