“With a breezy unpredictability that belies a darker underside, Grosse Pointe Blank, directed by George Armitage, is the kind of quirky, character-driven comedy they don’t make much anymore.”
John Cusack stars as Martin Blank, a professional hitman hired to travel to his hometown of Grosse Point, Michigan, in order to take out a Federal witness. As the trip coincides with Martin’s high school reunion, his psychiatrist (Alan Arkin) advises Martin to attend for the sake of his mental health, something Martin reluctantly agrees to, unaware that he is being tailed by two government agents and another rival assassin out for his blood… Grosse Pointe Blank is a hugely enjoyable rom-com-meets-action-movie, with bags of charm thanks to Cusack and the rest of the winning cast (including Minnie Driver as Martin’s former sweetheart, Debi, Jeremy Previn as Martin’s old friend, Paul, and Dan Ackroyd as rival hitman, Grocer).
