An absorbing but rarefied, introspective variation on traditional thrilleer motifs ... a fascinating compulsively watchable experiment

Screened in tribute to Bruno Ganz (1941 - 2019)

Bruno Ganz stars as Jonathan Zimmermann, a mild mannered picture framer living in Hamburg with his wife and family. When charismatic career criminal Tom Ripley (Dennis Hopper) learns that Zimmermann is dying of a terminal disease he realises he would make the perfect hit-man for a job Ripley has been tasked with carrying out. Zimmermann begrudgingly accepts, but he's no gunman, and the scheme quickly goes sour. Loosely adapted from Patricia Highsmith's novel Ripley's Game, Wim Wenders' quirky thriller is loving homage to rough-and-tumble Hollywood film noir.
