Jesus' Son (Alison Maclean, USA, 1999)

Maclean keeps her mesmerizing film spinning from hilarity to heartbreak, offering sharp supporting turns by Jack Black as a disorderly orderly, Denis Leary as a crazed divorcee and Holly Hunter as a disabled patient. Still, it’s Crudup, an actor of fire and grace, who makes this fuckhead worth watching.
— Rolling Stone

Adapted from Denis Johnson’s eponymous short story collection, Jesus’ Son concerns the episodic life of Fuckhead (Billy Crudup), a junky-cum-petty thief and his journey towards some kinda redemption. A brilliant cast includes Samantha Morton, Michael Shannon, Dennis Hopper, Holly Hunter, Dennis Leary and Jack Black.

The film's hero, "FH" (Billy Crudup, ALMOST FAMOUS, WATCHMEN), is a rumpled, hapless young man in his twenties who bounces through his days with his dreams and hallucinations blurring and merging into reality. The shaky center of his universe is his beloved on- again, off-again girlfriend Michelle (Samantha Morton).
