London Symphony (Alex Barrett, UK, 2017)

LondonSymphonyStill05.jpg
... London Symphony harnesses the city’s human element – more so than other globalised-London portraits such as Finisterre or Julien Temple’s documentary London: The Modern Babylon... Barrett has the knack of drawing out visual details that cause nice eddies in the film’s melancholy flow.
— Phil Hoad, The Guardian

Taking its cue from such classics of early cinema as 1927's Berlin: Symphony of a Great City, Alex Barrett's London Symphony, offers a poetic journey through our modern-day capital. It's an artistic snapshot of contemporary London; a celebration of its rich diversity of culture, architecture and religion. The film was nominated for the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2017.

We are very pleased to have Alex Barrett with us on the night to introduce his film and take part in a Q&A afterwards.

Because this event is likely to be busy we are making it MEMBERS ONLY - but non-members are more than welcome to join on the night (Membership is £15 p/year).
