The Sweet Hereafter - Film Club at Home #31

“There’s a mesmerizing clarity to The Sweet Hereafter: you’re moved by it, but you never feel the filmmaker is milking your emotions.”
— David Ansen, Newsweek

Following 49th Parallel, Nigel has picked another film set in Canada to continue the lockdown film club chain. Atom Egoyan’s 1997 adaptation of Russell Banks’ novel is set in small town coming to terms with the tragedy of a school bus crash.  Ian Holm is brilliant in a rare leading role surrounded by a terrific ensemble that includes Sarah Polly and Bruce Greenwood. (Here’s the original trailer).

The Sweet Hereafter is one of the most acclaimed films of the late 90s. Does that mean Wayne will like it? Let’s find out…

Where can you watch The Sweet Hereafter?

You can rent the film from Amazon for 99p. It’s also available at Google Play, YouTube, iTunes and Curzon Home.
