Cash on Demand (Quentin Lawrence, UK, 1961)

  • The Lord Palmerston 33 Dartmouth Park Hill London, England, NW5 1HU United Kingdom (map)

🎅🏻 Christmas screening & party! 🧑🏻‍🎄

Please note: this screening is now SOLD OUT!

It’s a bottle-episode-as-movie set entirely in one location in near-real time, and the rhythm Lawrence finds in long, delicate dialogue scenes . . . is downright electrifying to watch even when it’s harsh.
— The Film Stage

This tense and hugely entertaining heist thriller is a Hammer take on A Christmas Carol, which pits miserly and fastidious bank manager (Peter Cushing in sparkling form) against debonair robber André Morell, as a plot to rob a bank on Christmas Eve unfolds in almost real time. Reuniting Cushing and Morell, who had just played Holmes and Watson for Hammer in The Hound of the Baskervilles (and co-starred in the BBC's controversial 1954 adaptation of George Orwell's 1984), this ingenious suspense flick is now regarded by many as one of Hammer's best films.

Cash on Demand’s running time is a taut 67 minutes, which gives us plenty of time afterwards for a cup o’ festive cheer and a plate o’ festive snacks.

To join us for some post-film festive grub and the chance to mingle with your fellow film clubbers, there’ll be an additional charge of £10 (payable in advance when you reserve a seat).
