“Waiting for Guffman is a madcap gem, a movie that salutes the garishness, the shameless enthusiasm, of middle Americans whose lack of talent is matched only by their eagerness to parade it.”
Screened in tribute to Catherine O'Hara (1954 - 2026)
When the town of Blaine, Mo., approaches its sesquicentennial, local impresario Corky St. Clair (Christopher Guest) rounds up a cast of enthusiastic but decidedly untalented actors to perform his masterwork, Red, White and Blaine. But when the company discover that noted theatre agent Mort Guffman plans to attend the opening, an already highly charged atmosphere is turned up to 11... Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy’s Waiting For Guffman does for amateur dramatics what This is Spinal Tap did for rock bands, with the wonderful cast of improvisers including Fred Willard, Parker Posey, Bob Balaban, David Cross and, of course, the late great Catherine O’Hara.
