Jaws (Steven Spielberg, USA, 1975)

  • The Lord Palmerston 33 Dartmouth Park Hill London, England, NW5 1HU United Kingdom (map)
A sensationally effective action picture, a scary thriller that works all the better because it’s populated with characters that have been developed into human beings we get to know and care about.
— Roger Ebert

Screened in tribute to Bill Butler (1921 - 2023)

When a great white shark wreaks havoc in the seaside resort of Amity Island, local sheriff and landlubber Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) finds himself caught between a panicking community and a town council eager to play down the reported deaths. However, the mounting bodycount cannot be ignored, so Brody heads off on a shark hunt, accompanied by marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and salty old sea-dog Quint (Robert Shaw). Based on Peter Benchley's best-selling novel, with an incredible cast, fantastic cinematography from Bill Butler and, of course, an Oscar-winning score courtesy of John Williams, Steven Spielberg's 1975 shark saga set the standard for the New Hollywood popcorn blockbuster - while frightening millions of moviegoers out of the water.
