The Last Waltz (Martin Scorsese, USA, 1978)

hqdefault.jpg
It’s arguably the most beautiful of rock movies, while the musical highlights - ‘The Weight’ with the Staples Singers, Van Morrison’s firebolt ‘Caravan’, every Levon Helm vocal - still astound.

American Thanksgiving Day (approx) Screening.

On November 25, 1976, Canadian-US rock group, The Band, played their farewell concert at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom. They were joined on-stage by more than a dozen old friends and past-collaborators (including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood, Muddy Waters, Neil Diamond, Bobby Charles, Dr. John, Paul Butterfield, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Hawkins and The Staple Singers) and the whole evening was captured on film by Martin Scorsese. The result is one of the greatest concert films ever made. Recently remastered for Blu-ray The Last Waltz has never looked nor sounded better. As a leg-kickin' skin-tight-jumpsuit-sportin' Van The Man says, TURN IT UP!
